Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Need a ride from Portal to Onion Valley July 23rd

Anyone heading north on 395 from the Portal anytime after noon on the 23rd? I need to get to Onion Valley but just to Independence would be much appreciated and I'll hitch another ride from there.

My 16 yo daughter and I are doing onion valley to the Portal leaving OV on 7-24 am and coming out at the portal on 7-29 pm. Anyone else have a similar itinerary? Maybe we can work something out.

Last year I had an easy time hitching from the portal to horseshoe meadows but I'm more worried about getting between these 2 trailheads.

Suggestions appreciated.

Three of us heading back from WP to OV around noon time on July 23rd to pick our second car. If you are traveling light :)like us with one back pack each, may be you can come with us. We plan on hiking down the mountain from Outpost camp to WP on 23rd. If you are more than one you may want to call David Sheldon (760-876-8232) for taxi service. If you call the Ranger Office in Lone Pine, they can give you more info on Taxi services.

Krishna - That would be awesome! It would just be me with no pack. I'm dumping 2 people and all the gear at OV and then dropping the car off at the portal. I'd be honored to ride back with the 3 of you smelly hikers and at least buy you beers at the portal store. What a great chance for me to hit you up for trail info on the ride back to OV. I will be there at 12 or whatever works for you guys. I really appreciate the ride offer.
