Well, I wasn't planning a Yosemite trip this year but after reading this TR I have made plans to do Tenaya / Clouds rest / Half Dome / Valley Floor June 5 - 7. I have read all the threads from this TR but can't figure out snow conditions from Tenaya to Half Dome. Do we need axes and crampons or will it be relatively snow free?

We were thinking of staying at Sunrise High Sierra Camp on the first night, then at Half Dome on the 2nd night. Hike out and drive home on day 3. Can anyone offer any suggestion on this hike. We did Hetch Hetchy last year and had a blast. We're looking forward to getting back out there.

If by "at Half Dome" you mean on top of Half Dome, camping out on the top is no longer allowed. I believe you would have to camp down in Little Yosemite Valley below Half Dome.

We are doing this same hike starting on June 11th. From what I've gathered so far, we will not be needng the crampons or axe. There is still snowy spots, but nothing to be concerned with.

Are you hiking back to Tenaya Lake, or taking a shuttle back from the valley? We are parking at Tenaya and hoping that there is a shuttle back to the Lake from the valley. I'm pretty sure there is one that goes to Toulumne, so that should drop us off. I'l have to call and get the details.

Please post a report when you return. It will be great for us to see how you made out.

Have a great hike.

The day has finally come to visit Yosemite for me! grin

Leaving tomorrow night late and planning to come back Wednesday.

Day 1 Mariposa Grove (all of it) / Sentinel Dome
Day 2 4 Mile Trail - Panorama and back down to the valley
Day 3 Yosemite Falls trail to Eagle Peak
Day 4 Tenaya Lake Loop / Gaylor Lakes / visit Mono Lake
Day 5 (not Yosemite) hike around the Devils Post Pile

So is this a yay or nay plan for Yosemite?

The only reason I am not planning to do Half Dome is because I will bag it and Clouds Rest (hopefully) later this summer.

All set for June 5-7. We'll be heading up from So. Cal on Friday night....late. Should arrive in the Valley around midnight. We couldn't secure permits for the Clouds Rest trip and I don't really want to line up at 6 am for the 7 available walk in permits so we decided to do another route.
After studying our topos we decided a trip along the north rim over to North Dome and Indian Arch and then over to Eagle Peak. I've never done this part of Yosemite but it looks like your walking along a ridge at about 7800ft looking straight across at Half Dome and then looking down at Yosemite Falls from Eagle Peak.
We plan on starting from Tenaya Lake and heading towards Olmstead Point but based on time and shuttles we have the option of starting at Porcupine creek and shaving 4 miles off the trip.
Has anyone done this route? I know there are tons of epic hikes in Yosemite so I really hate to make up my own route, but this one looks fun.....any feedback?
