There seems to be a significant discrepancy between the NWS temperature forecast and what the White Mountain Summit Station indicates. Any ideas on why the difference?

For instance, NWS says temps should be 22-39F, while White Mtn actual temps show 16-24F.

It is most likely because the NWS system is just a computer-generated model of weather.  More an educated guess than an exact science.  At least on White Mountain, NWS pegs the elevation at 13796.  Around Whitney, the highest they show is 12812.

I sure wish they would install a weather reporting station on the Whitney summit.

Seems like the Starbucks at the summit would accommodate one.   wink
