Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Snow conditions right now

I am wondering if anybody can tell me about the snow amounts on the trail from Cottonwood Pass, coming out Whitney Portal. Was this years snowfall above average, average, or below average? And is there a problem with mosquitoes this time of year? Thanks in advance.

I went over Cottonwood Pass on Friday, 28 July 06 and snow was not an issue. Mosquitoes on the other hand were. It might be wise to take some repellant, especially for afternoons and early evenings that's when I seem to get chompped on the most.
