I remember the discussion about ice skating alpine lakes so I thought this would fit into an odd idea also.

Since taking pictures is one of my favorite things to do in the sierras the idea of taking pictures not of lakes but in the lakes occurred to me...

So you get one of those under water cases for your camera and go for a swim! grin

Considering that clean clear water you may be able to get cool pictures and if the wind is not blowing you could try to get pictures of the surrounded mountains from in the lake.

A crazy idea maybe but if I actually did it would I be the first?

No, one of the columnists for Outdoor Photographer has done it as "something else to do" with one of the point-and-shoot cameras that's waterproof. Really cool effect.

Well at least it would be less common!

Only down side is the under water case I would need for my DSLR is 1500 bucks!

Eastside Magazine, a freebie glossy available from Mammoth south (more or less), had an article with photos of ice skating High Sierra lakes in the current (winter) edition. Not sure how much longer winter edition will be around, as spring edition should show up by April (I think).

Now if you combine the two and take underwater pictures of ice-skaters on Sierra lakes...that would be something!

If you parachute into an icy lake and take underwater pictures of ice skaters, then head downriver in a homemade boat, you will beat Man vs. Wild. Oh, and maybe tame a wild horse to ride out on for that final leg.

But you have to eat a raw snake that you caught in the snowpack... careful the authorities don't catch you though.. because the Albino Sierra Snow Snake is a way endangered species...
