Greetings all,
I was looking for current information on Telescope Peak from anyone that has been up that way recently. I am leaving on Sunday for a visit to Death Valley and was wondering what the road access is currently like. I heard that a gate at wildrose has shut the road down which would add a couple of extra mile to the trip. I don't remember a gate in that area, but as I age the memory does as well. Also, if anyone has recently climbed the peak and can give some insight as to the snow/ice conditions for the summit push so I know what to bring. I know that things can change daily or with each passing storm and I am watching the weather for this. All input is appreciated. Thanks

Check the Morning Report on the DV website for road conditions.

The gate you're referring to is immediately after the kilns, and it was closed when I climbed Wildrose the end of December. Assuming you can drive as far as the kilns, that will add a couple of miles and approx 1K'+ to your hike.

Have done a couple of hikes in the Panamints in the last few days. Expect snow, depending upon the exposure, somewhere around 7K'.

Right now the weather looks stable for the next several days.

The gate is unlocked now, but they say you need 4WD to get any farther than the Kilns.

Hello All,
Thanks for the info. We are heading out tomorrow morning for 10 day of exploring in the valley. I'll post what I find in regards to Telescope Peak and Wildflowers.

as of today the gate was closed above the kilns and it looks like still a bit of snow on Telescope
