Actually Mike (one-handed gimp) and me (wimped out on Whitney before we even arrived at the Log Crossing) did Thor Peak, via Mirror Lake, on January 17, 2009.

There were a lot of people up there that weekend, including Daryl Hinman and Bill Straton from CLMRG.

Disturbing how little snow is up there for mid January. Bad news for California's water supply.

Even sadder is the fact that it doesn't look like the storms that dumped five plus feet of snow a little farther north added much to the Whitney area, at least at lower elevations. (See Moose's photos from last Sunday morning.)

I'm kind of glad the southern areas didn't get as much, going to head up owens peak this weekend I didn't know if these storms added much snow.

I was looking up at Owens Peak this afternoon wondering whether it's time to start thinking about starting up OPAW (Owens Peak After Work) again. It didn't look like there was any snow (although I'd guess there might be some in shaded areas up high).

Third climb of Thor and three different routes. We need to do this route again when there is snow all the way.

(An inside joke regarding snow:) Maybe February?

I've been wanting to ski the upper slopes of Thor and link that up with the Secret Route down to LBSL. It hasn't been feasible for the past few years and it's nowhere near possible right now.

Looking at the Web Cam photo this morning, I think that Thor may be worth a look now.

I'm probably going to be wandering around the NF this weekend, so I'll report back with what I see.
