Has anyone hiked up the Cottonwood Trail that starts about halfway between Lone Pine and Olancha past the Cottonwood Power Plant on Cottonwood Canyon Road? Is the trail still there or is it overgrown? Is the road open to the trailhead and is there parking at the trailhead?

Well, the road was open and in fine condition when I parked at the trailhead on 3 December. I did not hike up the trail, though.

Thanks for the info on the road - I guess I'll just have to find out about the trail first-hand.

I believe that the Friends of the Inyo has been doing trailwork on that trail the last couple of years.

They have some interesting purely fun ski/snowshoes coming up;
