Hi I was in town loading supplies and a young man called and wanted to know the temp at Iceberg high and low and the moisture content and if we stocked gear at the store for all conditions I said no the trip can be done in levis and t shirt , and I thought driving up the hill That makes no sense to someone that has no experience and asking questions that have little use if it wasn't about yesterday, so I told him about the message board and ask / read the many posts about the Mountaineering Route ,calling and asking one person would be cheating the vast knowledge that rests on the board Thank you Doug

People who ask those kinds of questions probably shouldnt try to go up!! Just plan for both ends of the extreme and you'll be fine!!! Isnt that the tried and true method?

I think the thing we must all remember is - most people in the US have never even heard of Mt Whitney. They definitely have no idea what is involved with hiking the mountain.

This message board is a tremendous source of invaluable information. In today's world of being able to google anything, I find it amazing that someone would attempt to take on a mountain hike on a large mountain without doing some internet research on the mountain. Any amount of research on Mt Whitney would reveal this message board.

Thanks to all for making the board so beneficial and interesting. I have summited 6 times and plan to hike again on Sept 5. I would not think of hiking without checking this board.

Unfortunately, the majority of hikers, even on Mt. Whitney, have never visited, or even heard of, this board. frown

Ya wonder where (or even if) they get any information before they hike.
