Hi, everyone.

I'll be acclimating at Horseshow Meadow on Friday night, and I'm wondering if mosquitos are a problem there in late-July/early-August. (They sure were on San Gorgonio last week. I think I "donated" a pint of blood!)

Thanks,
L

A word to the wisE! The amount of mosquitos on that trail are only to be outdone by those in the Amazon!! Take LOTS of repellant! They go under your hat, behind your backpack, bite through your clothes. It was sheer torture. I counted 36 bites on my back alone. An easy trail, but the mosquitos!

They are there but they aren't too bad, we were up there on 7/19. Just treat your clothes with permethrin before going and apply DEET to your skin when the blood suckers become a nuisance.

Where you hike will determine how bad they are on the trails. Cottonwood Pass/Chickhen Spring Lake were ok but people told us the Cottonwood Lakes basin was mosquito city.

Just got back today from a 8 day trip that started at Horseshoe Meadows (July 23-30). Mosquitos were not a problem the whole trip! Weather was on the cool side and it rained every day. Probably helped keep them at bay
! I used Jungle Juice from REI just the same and it kept any from attacking me anyway! Have a great trip on Friday!
