I'm planning on doing the MT route next Wednesday (08/13) with a group of 6 however I've done it before and would really love to climb the MR. I'm not familiar with the route and would like to see if anyone going up this route on this date would let me join. Just did Shasta in June so I'm in pretty good shape so I won't hold back a group.

I'll make the assumtion that you already have a permit for the main trail? If so, you'll need a different one to do the MR. It's possible to pick up a walk-in one however..

I'm just a little behind you....I still have to do the MT but I'm already itching to try the MR.

Not exactly true as of this year. Now a Whitney zone permit is a whitney zone permit - you can hike whichever route you choose. Unless you are doing an overnight - then you need to be specific about your hiking plans.

Thanks. I do have a MT permit for this date but didn't think I needed one for the MR.

I'm looking leave for the summit as early as possible and once again am looking for someone familiar with the route. I'm very flexible with the exception of the date which is next Wednesday.

are you planning on a one day trip up and down?

See the thread on 2008 Changes. A main trail day hike permit is now a Whitney Zone day hike permit. You already have a Whitney Zone permit reserved.
