For those lucky ones fortunate enough to have snagged a July 17th dayhike permit, we'll have a full moon ... well, sort of.

Officially, the full pizza pie is on July 18th, but the night of the 16th into the 17th will have a "waxing gibbous with 100% of the moon's visible disk illuminated." While much of the trail will admittedly still be in the shadows, the early morning start should benefit from the reflection off the granite walls.

Team Danu (+@ti2d) will be joining in the fun -- who else? BobR, any chance you're heading up that day? WhitnyN1 (Jack N.), is the 17th a candidate for one of your doubles?

See you on the trail.

The moon will set that day by 4:57 AM PDT. Since there is a high point to the west, the moon will set, effectively, much earlier.

If you want to illuminate an early start, a gibbous waning moon is a better choice.

But if you are planning to get back late, a gibbous waxing moon is better than a full moon, since it will have risen before sunset.
