Overall the trail is in great shape up until Trail Camp. The snow is melting quick at TC and I would expect the 99 switchbacks to be clear soon. I saw 3 rangers hiking the switchbacks as I headed down- possibly to help make the snow melt faster? or was I hallucinating? Anyways it was a successful trip, I have some photos and a little commentary posted on this blog:

i have seen several references in other posts to LBSL and UBSL... what do these mean, and where are they?

LBSL = Lower Boy Scout Lake
UBSL = Upper Boy Scout Lake

These are the first two lakes one comes to when climbing the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek on the way to the routes on the East face of Mt Whitney, including the MR (Mountaineer's route)

Glad this post was helpful to you guys. The snow was melting fast up there so I wouldn't be surprised if the switchbacks were partially hikeable by this upcoming weekend and completely doable by the weekend after that. I have seen where they were completely covered one week and completely hikeable the next.

Best of luck.

Dave
