To Doug...I have that I would be more than happy to send you 12" x 12" size sticky posters that you can slap on the Bear proof garbage dumpsters at the portal...It may help with the problem with some people not properly disposing of garbage and shutting them properly...these posters are awesome! And have helped here at Lake Tahoe

The posters read Place Trash Inside Dumpster, Latch & Secure...A fed bear is a dead Bear...Bear League
I also have brochures and literature I can send that explains stuff one can do to keep bears away from human food & while in Bear country....these brochures are kinda more geared towards if one lives in Bear Country every day..The info would still be helpful for those just visiting Bear County I think.
Maybe it could help some..just let me know.

Hi I read the post the day you posted, I am sorry that I did not reply. We have many signs around the Portal and adding more seems like it would just add to the signs not lead people to change .
Bear signs start 5 miles from the Portal, at every campsite and on many post around the Portal, bears are active in the area and things are taken from campsites, cars and on the trail. So it is not a "charlie chicken" as someone said last year.

If you see the trash can overflowing, lid will not close think about looking for another trashcan, Trash is removed at the campsite everyday around the Portal every other day so on the weekends the trash cans can become full and you may need to look for another can.
Another common problem ,Hikers are still parking in the dayuse lot next to the Pond, This lot is just past the STOP SIGN and sign that says Hikers parking starts after this lot. So at 8:30 AM we see 10 cars in this lot no fishing, waterfall trail empty, and bathrooms empty where are the people that parked those cars? Thanks Doug

Doug..Thanks for commenting! Yeah I hope each year gets better as far as people being responsible about disposing of their garbage and properly storing their food to keep it away from the Bears. It is very frustrating for myself as well..with some people in the Tahoe area that constantly leave their garbage out in non Bear proof containers and the Bears and other wildlife get into it! Hopefully one day people will realize how important this is.
Thanks Doug
