I've started a blog devoted to getting the folks up and down this mountains safely, expanding their Sierra hiking horizons beyond Whitney Portal and the MMWT and to discuss current topics; such as, The Mt. Whitney Day Use Permit, in long form.

What I am looking for are contributors for the blog...strident opinions that differ from mine are welcomed and encouraged. Message me if you are interested.

Is the blog going to replace The Mt. Whitney Day Hike and Backpacking Page?

I'll be keeping both.

I thought a blog could do the current stuff better, like Mt. Whitney Zone Day Use Permits, and introduce many of the newbies to great big world of the Eastern Sierra hiking and backpacking with trip reports and the like.

I was hoping to add some additional voices with different experiences, I'm a hiker; not a mountaineer, and opinions.

I was going message you to add it to the orientation notes.

I added the link. We'll see how it goes.

WBT, why don't you create a signature with links to your blog and "Day Hike/Backpacking Pages"?

A lot of people probably don't make the connection.

Steve C,

The software will not allow me to do both. UBB allows for 100 characters, both are something like 148.

I just cut and paste it this season.

I'd also like add a newbie blogger. Someone who will say, "Oh my God", when hits Trail Crest for the first time this summer like I did when I wasn't a geezer. wink

FYI,
When I pasted in the following URLs
  http://webpages.charter.net/mtwhitneyhiking/dayhike.htm
  http://mtwhitneyhiking.blogspot.com
and hit the Preview button, I got the following message:

You are using 92 of the allowed 100 characters.

I can do it that way but to it with the UBBCode it comes up to 113.

This is a cut and paste from a MS Word file.

I just edited your profile and added the signature you posted above. Looks ok to me. (Maybe it lets admins create longer signatures).

The message board on Bill's site was the first one of any kind that I was ever on and I found the responses to my questions about Whitney very useful. Bill responds to nearly all of the messages himself. Nice work Bill!

Steve,
I experimented with embedding a link to the Orientation Notes thread in my signature. The only room I had left for text was "O Notes."

Right now I do not like the look, but I will leave it in for a couple of days to see if I change my mind. (It also detracts from the feature threads).

Thanks Steve. I see that you made the change.

I also was able to turn off the signature in the feature topics.
