I caught a concert at the Wiltern in L.A. last night and noticed a lot of smoke, although no visible fire from Interstate 5 when driving through the Newhall/Magic Mountain area. I love sunny days and loathe the rain and clouds, but some rain right now would be just what the doctor ordered. Best of luck to all So. Cal. folks.

Thor, best of luck to you! My whole neighborhood went down last night. I just got word from my CHP friend that my house and my immediate neighbors houses are still standing, i just live in a war zone now. I got so lucky i wish the same for everyone else.

but some rain right now would be just what the doctor ordered. Wish I could send you all some of ours -- it's been raining nonstop here since 6pm Monday evening to the tune of 3-1/4", with what looks like a little more on the way later today. CaT

I have been out of the house since Monday evening along with many others due to the Santiago Canyon fire. Have been working (I fly therefore I at least get a free hotel room on my layover) and staying with friends. I live in Silverado and have been spared the loss of my home, but have friends in Modjeska (the canyon next door) who have not been as fortunate. I have merely been inconvenienced and my heart breaks for those who have truly faced tremendous loss. I at least have a home to return to. My thoughts go out to all the others.

Hi Just got done spending time with a guy I know from San Diego he is up here to get away from the fires , his house was saved but two houses down and 7 houses below him burnt, the best way he could expain it like a war zone. They had several minutes to leave at 2AM . Stay safe , look to the days ahead , best to all the Portal Crew

I received the attached link from a friend. The young man is amazing, which is demonstrated by his tribute to the firefighters and America. This was put together by a wonderful, compassionate young man! Amazing! It will bring tears to your eyes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F21R0ntnqLg

Me and my family live in Fallbrook and were evacuated on Monday afternoon, by the grace of God and the hard work of the firefighters our home and neighborhood were saved. We made it back in last night and it's good to be home.
Thor and others affected by this tragic fire me and my families thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tomcat, here's a link to the San Diego area fires that will allow you to get down to street level and show the homes that were lost: http://www.signonsandiego.com/firemap/

It's been a very long week, but I lost my home Tuesday morning to the Slide fire in Running Springs. I don't know you 2dtrail, but I'm very glad your home was spared. When Mom Nature says it's time to roar, she spares no mercy. Be positive and accept what the trail gives you.

Drove Fallbrook Street today saw no damage. From old hwy 395 west to gird were the hardest hit areas. Pala Mesa resort to a pretty good hit as well as a mobile home park off Reche. Wilt road also had some damage. North County Times site has a list of all damaged or lost homes. Hope your family faired well.

ThruHiker: I am so so very sorry for your loss. I do hope that you were able to get some of your possessions out of your home and that not only you, but your family are now safe and have somewhere to stay. Prayers and blessings, Carol

2dtrail - I emailed you. Thanks. Sometimes in life we are given the opportunity to look at our situations and make positive changes that we can appreciate for a great many years to come. I have been given that chance right now and am excited at the possibilities. It's sometimes a hassle and many times very inconvenient, but worth the rewards if looked at in the right way.
