We woke up Sunday morning with the original intention of checking out the conditions on the MR, but it wasn't meant to be. Some sort of truck fell on my head just above the E-ledges, and by the time I reached LBSL, I was in bonk mode. Some improvement came with sunrise, but when Tom suggested we do the Smiley Face route up Thor instead, I wasn't one to argue.

So, conditions:
Really, no snow to contend with at all up to the saddle above Clyde Meadow. Maybe the occasional dust over the rocks.

Girl Scout Lake has a nice layer of ice on the surface (well, except for the giant hole we punched through while playing 'who can throw the biggest rock').

The Smiley Face was fun (Mike's and my first time climbing it), even though the snow was a little slippery.

We got back to the WPS by 2 p.m. (hey, it's 5 o'clock somwhere!) after descending the SE coloir. A really fun day, and thanks, guys for having me along!

Yeah..that looked like fun! I can sympathize with the bonk feeling. It sucks...and when you look at where you still need to go..it sucks more. Looks like you guys made a good decision and had fun! Great photos...

Looks like a great day, Moosie! One of the things I enjoy about hiking/climbing is the decisions that need to be made. Sounds like you made a good one and had a fun day! cool

Btw, in the first pix you posted, it looks like someone was very hungry. It seems that they are eating a snack, plastic bag and all!!! grin

Laura,

Your like the "Energizer Moose"! My heart aches everytime I see the pics and read the great times everyone has going up Thor Peak.Looks like another one of those "hopefully next year" things to do.

Thor

I should change my phrase to "Atleast I have a peak named after me and maybe some day I'll actually climb the darn thing"

Hey, Bruno! Yeah, we were wondering after a 4-week absence if he'd be able to find the Sierra again! crazy Maybe we should start calling him the elusive GigaMike! Wait, that sounds familiar...

Beachie: You're welcome. I've loved my hiker girl necklace since getting it from my 'rents last year. Interesting that the male hiker is heading along flat ground while the female version is walking uphill... shocked

MC: Nope. Absolutely not. There was NO FUN to be had during the trip. Stop laughing, darnit! There's NO FUN in mountaineering! wink

Yeah, right. Like I tell my friends, if I lose the ability to smile while I'm out there, that means something is wrong.

Thor: you are hereby required to show up for a hike of your peak. Let's do it!!
