Since Recreation.gov is down, how can I contact the campground directly to make a reservation for next week? Does anyone have a phone number?!Thanks!

I just called this number 5 mins ago (760)937-6070..and the man who answered confirmed this was the number for whitney portal campground.

Richard, the camphost at the Portal campground mentioned to me when I was there September 15 that he will be leaving October 14 or 15 (meaning that the campground will close).

I can't speak to the use of the campgrounds once the gate is closed. Keep in mind that the water and restrooms are normally shut down also.

Hi Some of this information is not correct, the campground is open until 22 Oct. it is first come first serve NO RESERVATIONS the campground has one camper tonight and last weekend many open sites , The backpacker campground is open near the trailhead also. 11 cars in the Portal area tonight just did the last bear patrol and counted the cars.

Do not rely on this site for the offical campground information go directly to the contract company site for the final information , we link to that site on our front page.Thanks Doug
