Hello Whitney Friends,

Last Dec. 28, I made a post about recently completed triple bypass surgery on my 48-year-old heart. I was a bit bummed at the time, and was looking for some encouragement. I received plenty, most notably from Bob R. and 67Brickie.

Thank you to everyone. In late May, I took a dayhike up to Outpost Camp. In July, I went to the top of Bishop Pass (12,000 feet). And, on Sept. 1, I stood on the Whitney Summit, joined by my kids, 16-year-old Brianna and 13-year-old Connor.

While spending the night at Trail Camp on Aug. 31, I met a gentleman named Kirk. Proud of what I was doing, I told him about my surgery. He then shared with me that he had been in remission for two years from colon cancer!

So, I guess that in addition to being a nice hike, Whitney can be a healing place for some of us. When we have our setbacks, we just need to get back on the trail.

As I was coming down the 99 switchbacks on Sept. 1, I saw a man who somehow looked familiar. When I introduced myself, he turned out to be Bob R. I choose to think of that encounter as being something more than mere coincidence.

Thank you again to everyone for their support.
See you up there ... again.

Prostate cancer here. I climbed Mt Whitney on 6/20/07 1 month prior to my cancer surgery.Summiting Whitney was DEFINATELY part of my treatment. It is amazing what healing can take place when one accomplishes hard to achieve goals. Great job Potamus and way to go BobR for your role in encouragement.
