Andrew....
We went to Washington last weekend. Friday the winds on top of Mt. Washinton were 80mph with gusts of 125mph. The ambient air temp was -3 F. with a wind chill of about -35. Downright balmy! Anyone who is really into Winter mountaineering and climbing and who has never come out East to frolic in the Presidential Range Mountains in New Hampshire owe it to themselves. It's loads of fun. We actually climbed Landslide gulley in Crawford Notch. (Crawford in on the backside of Mt. Webster). Steep Grade 1-2 ice/snow climb. Very good conditions. Protected from the elements because we were inside the gulley. Lot's of fun stuff. A little crampon work, some low angle ice, some rapping..You should take a trip up North some Winter to climb Washinton. It's a great peak to tag if you've never done it. Nasty, nasty weather..
Please contact me when you get back and give me the scoop on your trip. It would be much appreciated! I'll hang my prayer flags in your honor. Have a safe climb, tag that ***** and be well...
Best Regards,
Las
