Hey Gang,
Has anyone done the Pohono Trail in Yosemite? We were hoping to catch the bus up to Glacier Point and hike down to Wawona Tunnel where we would leave a car. Only problem is, the Glacier Point bus doesn't normaly stop at Wawona Tunnel for us to hop aboard after parking our car there. Does anyone know of how this might be done? Are the bus people flexible if we pay full price from the Valley to Glacier Point, to pick us up at a non-scheduled bus stop? Any other suggestions?
Thanks guys,
Susie

I have hiked the trail from the tunnel to the fissures and back very recently as a prep for Whitney. Doing it as a round trip is not easy but it is an awesome trail. The views are incredible and the trail is virtually deserted until you get close to the fissures. Be aware there is little water and Bear encounters are very posssible. If you don't want to do the loop it should be possible to catch the bus from Glacier Point to the tunnel.

Take a bike with you...a bike is invaluable for a visit to the Valley anyway. Get up early, put the bike in the car, drive and park the car in the lot by the tunnel. Give yourself at least a half hour to get back to the lodge on the bike (take gloves and a hat, it's chilly on a bike that early, especially if you're hurrying a bit). You can leave the bike at the Lodge in a bike rack to pick up later. Get the bus tickets the night before.

Should be a nice hike, and the bus ride to Glacier is enjoyable, though I wouldn't count on getting picked up along the route. The loop is also nice, but it puts a more relaxing slant on the hike if you don't have that 4.6 mile uphill hike to start it off (which is a nice hike on its own).
