If any one has a permit available for either Saturday September 15th or 29th, I would be happy to grab it from you.

Check the unused permits in 2007 so far. You should be able to get a no-show. See Step 6 in Wilderness Permit Options. Permits are not transferable.

You should be able to get a walk-in permit without too much difficulty.

I am aware of the permits available the day before. I can not make it there in time for that. If I could be in Lone Pine @ 10:00am on either Friday I would not be looking for a permit!!
I'm looking for someone or some group that has an opening. Regardless of what is said regarding permits not being transferable, we all know better!!!

Ummmm.... well, no, we don't. If the leader of some group agrees to include you on his permit count, then he is responsible for seeing that you abide by the rules of the permit. And with an attitude like yours, I sure wouldn't add you to mine!

Now... if you really want to hike, try calling the WP number on Wednesday and Thursday to see if you can snag a permit reservation for the following Saturday that someone has called in and canceled. If you get one, you can then ask them to leave it in the night pickup box on Friday night (you may need to call the Visitor Center number for that request.)

If that doesn't work, then do as Bob R, walk in Saturday morning, and wait in line for a permit. You could be on the trail by 9 A.M. When Bob R does that, he expects to finish after dark, but it works!

Ooooo. It looks like you might have a big problem. It appears that your location is SoCal. I presume you don't live at high altitude. If you can't be in Lone Pine to pick up a dayhike permit on Friday afternoon for your hike on Saturday, it appears that you don't plan on staying at high altitude for enough time before your hike to get acclimated. So you will probably have altitude sickness and won't make it to the summit anyhow. Not a good situation for you or anyone you would be with, who may have to take care of you.

"Mt. Whitney Day Hike reserved permits must be picked up or confirmed earlier than past years. The new deadline to pick up or confirm a reservation is noon on the day before the hike. This will allow other parties to utilize canceled space the afternoon before the trip date. Overnight trips will still have the deadline of 10am on the entry date."

Please don't take this kind of philosophy to the trail, be respectful out there. You should not have a problem getting a walk in permit for that day.

What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. Thats why i climb!

I didn't see your post until now, but released one day hike permit about 45 min ago from a group I have on 15 Sept. If you call now, you may be able to get it?
