Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Place to sleep Fri night at Portal Campgrounds??

Just hoping someone might have a corner of their campsite that they can share with us Tommorrow night. There are 5 of us hiking the MR Saturday (day hike) and looking for a place to throw our sleeping bags down Friday night. Would definitley appreciate the hospitality.

Hey Richard, you have 3 options for camping at the Portal. Depending on when you arrive, 1) you can snag a place at the packbackers walkin site; 2) find a place at the family sites (this might be easier then you think since kids are back in school and most people (regular campers) are done for the season); 3) the one that you mentioned.

As I mentioned, I suspect the family campsites (half are not reseverable.... first come) will be a good option.

Thanks for the Info - I was aware of the backpackers walk-in sites, but not the family sites. I'm sure we'll find a place to catch some ZZss.

Hopefully we'll see some of you on the summit.
