Happy Birthday to you Kurt (Sierra Mountaineering Int.), a truly amazing person! You are a good friend and contributor to our WPSMB community and an extraordinary guide to the mountaineering community.

Thanks for all of your advice over the years. I am sure I can speak for everyone that you have certainly helped us with our decisions, always leading us safely into the backcountry.

Too bad Kurt won't be around to celebrate his birthday as he is currently guiding a client in the Palisades!

If anyone has any great photos of Kurt, feel free to post them! I'm sure he'd get a kick out of seeing them!

Here's another one I took when I ran into Kurt on MT McKinley this past June. The funny thing about that was he got on the very plane I rode to fly onto the glacier! Here I was in the sky soaking in the views when the pilot received a radio call saying "This is your last trip after picking up Wedberg and his crew!" I forgot for a moment whether I was in Alaska or in the Eastern Sierra!

Yeah, he's happy...heading back to Talkeetna for a bath and great food (yum-yum Halibut burritos)!

Kurt and a few of us WPSMB crew up on Mt. Baldy last year (when there was actually some snow on the mountain). I snowboarded and Kurt skied and we made it all the way down to the Manker Flats parking lot.

Hey Scott -- I think this is the two of you coming down onto the fire road just above Manker on 3/22/06.

Everest or Baldy? Happy Birthday Kurt!

Kurt and his father (John) at the Baldy Hut last October. It was really enjoyable hiking with a Legend and Legend Jr. wink

Hey Alan,

Yeah the only dry 20 feet of trail was that little section where the trail splits off from the fire road. Kinda annoying to have to step out of the bindings for that brief part. If I remember correctly you were a machine that day and left me in the dust blush

Scott -- I was close enough to you that day to catch the piecure of the one non-skiable spot. laugh

Kurt was pretty excited that day to be able to ski all the way to Manker. Even he felt it was a rare day. Of course, he's only done Baldy a few hunderd times! grin

Wow, what a wonderful thread to come home to after a trip! Thanks to everyone for your kind words, birthday wishes, and pictures. I had not seen some of these. Scott, where are yours? It doesn't look like they got successfully uploaded. The WPSMB is such a great community of friends both virtual and real. All of you who contribute make this forum the special gem that it is. I look forward to sharing more trips with you all in the future.

I had a wonderful birthday spent guiding a climb on Mt. Sill (14,162'). It is known for having one of the finest views in the entire Sierra; a range full of great views. The weather was warm, the air was clear allowing for great visibility now that the fires have calmed down, and the wind was calm. All in all it was a great day. Here's a summit photo with my client Eric Larson. He's a neat guy and one of only two people in the world to travel to the North Pole during the summer. Quite an impressive feat! That's North Palisade Peak (14,242') behind me to the left.

Happy Birthday, Kurt! I was on your first SFS Whitney climb back in April. Still hoping to join you and Greg on Cotopaxi in November. Be well! -Dan Garrison

Would the senior Mr. Wedberg be the same person that hosts the Jazz show on the Sierra Wave on Saturday nights? I love that show!
