I was considering doing a hike of Trail Peak in a couple of weeks. I have on occasion seen some on the board refer to is as Trailmaster Peak. Which is correct? The maps say it's Trail Peak, but perhaps there is another peak that I was unaware of by the Trailmaster Peak name. Is it one peak with two names, one correct and one incorrect? Or are there two peaks with such similar names? Whoever knows, please clarify. Thanks.

Trail Peak is just west of Trail Pass. Trailmaster Peak is just a bump along the ridge that goes to Cirque Peak - you head up to it from near Cottonwood Pass. I haven't hiked up to Trail Peak, but I have done the hike to Trailmaster Peak.

Here's info on the bump known as Trailmaster Peak:

Trailmaster is a bump on the ridge that leads to Cirque Peak, but its elevation is 12,336 feet, while Trail Peak's elevation is 11,605 feet.

Thanks for the clarification. I will do Trail Peak for sure, or perhaps I'll do the MR again. I can't decide. Easy day or hard day.

I've done Trail a couple of times, it is about 2 hours up, last third or so easy x-c from the PCT. Nice views. To make a longer, but still easy day, go up Trail Pass, traverse on the trail north, bag the peak, continue on to Cottonwood Pass, and down. Nice day hike of about 10-12 miles, fairly level, except the climb of the pass and the peak.

I did Trailmaster a few weeks ago. Didn't know anything about it or where it was. Just climbed up some fun class 3/4 stuff (purely optional) for kicks and ended up on a summit with a register. What's with the reflectors up there? Trail Peak is even easier. They both make for easy acclimation hikes when you only have a few hours to kill.

Good eye, Rick! Those reflectors are all gone now. I saw your name in the summit register when I was there on 3 August.

Rafael:
I had forgotten about Mike's trip up Trail Peak after we did the MR back in May. His link to photos can be found down in the thread.
