I will mainly need some fuel for my little camping stove....is the store fairly stocked up on it? And a nice selection of maps (like Tom Harrison, or maybe Nat'l Geo) would be a good bonus. Also, do they sell those wipes that one can use in lieu of a shower? (for later on in my trip).

I'm trying to decide if I want to go to REI in Las Vegas the morning after my flight or just head to the Eastern Sierra. I'd rather not stop at REI if I can save the the time, but want to make sure I can find what I need.

I assume there are some other outfitter stores in Lone Pine, etc. but I want to go to the legendary Portal Store first, especially because I've enjoyed this message board for so long.

I cannot tell you about the supplies at WPS, but there are also three sporting goods stores in Lone Pine. See Main Street Stores.

The very best thing at the WPS is Doug and Earlene, They can point you in the right direction and fill your stomach. Doug can tweek any plans to fit local maps and trails for this years weather and conditions, he's helped me for years. The store does have great books and good prices on the stuff they carry. Batteries, lights, poles etc. and Bear cannisters to rent for almost nothing a day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOUG thanks for a great summer Chico girls.
