It has been suggested that some of us arriving early (for me, I am arriving Wednesday for some day hikes) pick of some extra permits. But, not knowing the number, and the limitation on permits, I am not sure how successful I would be if people counted on me to pick of additional permits. So, my thoughts are to ask everyone to pick up their own permit. This goes with the philosophy that each person going be self-sufficient on the trip.

Now, with that said, I will pick up some extra slots on my permit. I just hope that not too many people plan on this.

Thanks

I'm hoping to make this hike, but am not 100%, yet.

Just want to make sure I understand where & when - 8am at the trailhead by the store? Look for Some Guy, and maybe a moose?

Hope to see you Saturday.

Dan

Dan, yes....... keep in mind that we will leave at 8am; however, if you can, arrive early and meet the other board members. Hopefully, there will be a moose at the trailhead!!!

There may be a few tracks, but that's why CA Moose are elusive. grin

I'll definitely be there for the party, though! Save a pitcher for me!

Hi All,
I plan to bring my hiking buddy, Barley, with me on the group hike. Having not done the North Fork Route or Thor before, I want to check with the experienced North Fork hikers in the group about the route to be certain she can make it without any problems.

Barley is an experienced hiker and very friendly 2-year old Vizsla. She has been hiking with me for a year and recently hiked with me to the summit of Split Mountain (7/7/07) and was able to handle the boulder hopping and the class 3 chute with no problems. We also just did San Gorgonio this past weekend on the Momyer Creek trail - obviously, much different terrain.

Here are my questions. Are there any obstacles she could not negotiate on this hike? I have a 20 foot rope with carabiners I use for hoisting her up small ledges, etc. Would the group mind if she joined us on the hike?

I look forward to meeting everyone this weekend.
Thanks,
Adam

I've been looking forward to this hike since it was first mentioned.I'm gonna try like heck to still make it.Saturday the 8th,my 47th birthday,I met some friends at Mammoth to try out my mountain biking skills. All was good for the first 45 minutes.I was released from Mammoth Hospital late yesterday morning with 3 cracked ribs, dislocated rt.shoulder,a grade 3 concussion and a real bad limp.Worst part was missing my Chargers home opener.I still plan on being there although breathing might be a problem.

Hi Gang, Count me in, sounds like this will be fun. I intend to pick up a permit on Friday, and if they let me, I'll get it to cover for anyone that turns up late without a permit.

No burgers and beer at the store?

Seems like that would fit the "message board" hike a tad better....

Hey fish
Your mtn bike crash sounds very painful. I am also from the Escondido area (ride Daley ranch weekly) and plan to hike on Sat. with the group. Maybe catch up with you at the portal or on the hike to Thor.

I would love to make the hike, but I am in need of a one-way ride from Orange County departing Friday night or early Saturday morning. I'll pay for gas. Please pm me if you could help out.

Thanks!!

LMAO! Cute, Gary!

Doesn't matter where, "you know I'm here for the party (ala Gretchen Wilson, baby!!)"

"Just call my naaaaaammmeeee, and I'll be there..."

As Mike usually says, "Oh lord, she's singing again... at least I think that's what that is..." shocked

I just wanted to wish you all a great hike Saturday and a fun time at the after party.I was hoping to still make it but the cracked ribs aren't healed enough after only 5 days.I've been wanting to climb my namesake since the first time this popped up.Maybe in early October.
Happy Hiking,

Thor

So, who all's going? Shall we all PM Paul (as the originator of the thread), and he can post a list? Or just wait and see?

Edit: Never mind, just noticed Paul said he's arriving Wednesday. Doubt if he'll have access to a computer...

I'll be there. Should be there early afternoon Friday, planning to camp along the road somewhere between WP and LP.

I'll be there. Planning to leave San Diego around 3am (I hate traffic, plus I get a few extra hours to acclimate). Hope to get a site at the family campground, have breakfast at the store, then hike up the Meysan Lakes trail, or maybe to Lone Pine Lake, for lunch.

I'll be there. Hope to grab a permit before closing, and then have an early dinner at the Pizza Factory.
