I'm going to dayhike the MR (first time) via the gully sometime in mid-August this year. Am curious if anyone who has done MR is going same time where I might observe proper route. Have climbed MT and other peaks solo and keep good pace. I have no preference for the return, the MR or the MT (and bag Muir) are both fine.

I have read extensively on this route so likely no issues solo but thought it worth asking. Thank you.

Very good chance I will be going up to do the same sometime the week of August 6-10. I will keep this post in mind and shoot you an e-mail if that gets firmed up in the near future.

Thank you spinefxr. It is likely I will not be able to go that early in August but thank you and good luck on your climb!

I am going up the 11th and 12th of August. Doing an over-nighter with my father, he's 65 and hasn't been up to the summit yet. I summitted via the gulley and 1st chute 3 weeks ago, it was fairly straight-forward. I stayed on solid rock as much as possible and only strayed into scree field when solid rock went vertical. I did it solo and went down MT. Good luck to you when you go.

Thanks russclimber. Best of luck, hope you both summit safely.

When you summited via the gully and 1st chute, did you plan to exit MT or did you just decide that when you got up there? I guess my concern is descending the 1st chute. Obviously quite steep and exposed and requires extreme caution.

It was my first time up and I didn't know what to expect. I was pretty tired and just felt it would be safer to head down the MT instead of the MR by myself.
