Went for a one day on July 13th. Took us 18 hours. The weather was generous and gave us a perfect day. Unbelievable! Great scenery! Being from So. Cal. we warmed up on Mt. San Jacinto (10,834) and Mt. San Gorgonio (11,499) doing day hikes. With four nights in Lone Pine booked, we went up to Lone Pine Lake on the 10th. There were day spots available for the 11th, so we got 2 and headed up to Trail Camp to acclimate some more. On the 12th we drove to Horseshoe Meadows and hiked up to High Lake. Spectacular scenery back there! Almost went for New Army Pass, but thought we should save the energy for the summit. We ended up on top at about 2pm on the 13th and anybody who was there that day knows how clear it was! Endless views! Had a fantastic experience for a couple of first timers up the WT! Everyone we met was very nice and most of the people up there were pretty courteous. Nancy got headaches pretty bad from San Jacinto and she's allergic to Diamox, so her doc recommended Dexamethasone and it worked like a charm! That, plus our prep, pressure breathing, and staying hydrated made for a memory of a lifetime!
