Actually, not much of a trip reports, since I am usually not all that good at these things...
Having said that, I went up the MR last Friday, and camped at Iceberg lake before summiting on Saturday.
The ascent was nice since there were quite a lot of clouds. Kept the heat down, although the threat of a thunderstorm was always in my mind.
It was quite crowded at Iceberg lake (for the MR), I don't remember seeing that many people camping there before.
My last trip up the MR was over Memorial Day, but at that time, I didn't summit because there was still a lot of snow in the chute, and I am not all that comfortable with hiking on snow.
Anyway, no snow this time...
Instead of snow, there is a lot of loose rock in the chute, so I ended up going rather slow. A helmet is a really good idea, in case somebody higher up kicks up some stones. I forgot my helmet in my car, though...
Anyway, I was at the summit around 12:30, and started back down at 1:30.
The smoke from the Big Pine/Independence wildfire was clearly visible to the north, but it was all blowing the other direction, away from the mountain.
I found coming back from the top to Iceberg lake harder than going up, because of the loose rock. I really hate sliding on loose rock.
Nothing much to say about the rest of the descent, other than the really refreshing shower at the portal :-)
