In this trip report there are two photos, they are the lower and upper mountaineer's route photos.
http://www.summitpost.org/route/155528/mountaineer-s.html

I got confused when viewing these photos and others on other posts. Where I get confused is with the photo with the caption:

“The upper part of the Mountaineer's route on May 29, 2005. The standard route is marked in green. The traverse alternative in blue. The red line shows a path from Mt. Russell.

Which perspective does the photo with the caption above show?
Where would the "lower mountaineer’s route", from the other photo, intersect with the upper mountaineer’s route depicted in the photos?

Finally,

what is a swag at RT for Mountaineer's Route in a day?
how many miles is the MR One-way?

Thanks for any help with this

Karuzi,

The 'lower MR' is visible from the east. The upper part is seen from the north -- two very different sides of the mountain.

The very best way to visualize this is to create a Goggle Earth account and look at Mt. Whitney. That'll clear up any confusion.

Thanks,

That's what I did last night and was amazed by how apparent everything was on Google Earth - what an app.

My other questions were :

what is a swag at RT for Mountaineer's Route in a day?
how many miles is the MR One-way?

Do you have any info on this?

Thanks

I don't remember there being anything swag-wise for the MR in a day in particular. I just ended up buying the "Big One in a Day" T-shirt and patch, and kept the knowledge of the route for myself! grin

I've heard distances from 4-6 miles one-way. I tried to measure it when I was there in May, but my Garmin Forerunner completely freaked out and said I had jumped to 17K elevation. Which, as you know, Mooses are prone to do... eek

Best swag: photo of you back at the car/truck safe enjoying the first beer after the climb. It never tastes better!

What IS a swag? confused

Is that some slang term? ...or is it some sort of specialized version of a wag bag?

Sorry for the confusion -

You are all right to be confused, I meant to say what is an estimate of the round-trip time for a day hike of the MR?

How much time for an ascent of MR and descent of the main trail?

Thanks and again sorry to have confused my terms!
