I'll be dayhiking the main trail this Sunday, the 1st. Does anyone have any information on the snow conditions?

I ran into considerable snow last year at trail crest; I'm interested in knowing if conditions will be similar.

Regards

There wasn't considerable snow at Trail Crest in the middle of May this year.

I would not sweat snow on the mountain until mother nature dumps again, hopefully in October.

I went up the Mountaineers Route and down the Main Trail on Sunday 6-24-07 and there wasn't any snow at Trail Crest. In fact, the only place on the Main Trail that I encountered snow was a small patch below the summit platuea and it may be gone by now as well.

Brad:
It's been a few weeks since I was up there, but from recent trip reports I don't think it's changed much except to melt out further. I took a ton of pics along the switchers, cables, and along the backside traverse that are in my flickr.com album for the Whitney Main Trail 6/9-10/07 .
Have fun!

Brad,

I was on the mountain last weekend, 6/22-23. No snow at Trail Crest. A (very) thin layer of ice in the early a.m. on the parts of the switchbacks that have melt runoff. A tiny bit of snow in the cable section of the switchbacks, but you're walking on rock. It's dry from Trail Crest to summit. Excellent trail conditions.

I was just up there Wed. 6-27. The mountain is yours, except for a little snow around the cables you can count on dry feet for 22 miles. Enjoy.....
