Good afternoon-
I am going to be climbing Whitney on the main trail this coming Oct 3-5. I have never been on the trail before so I want to be prepared for whatever may come up. My question pertains to gear rental. Is there anyplace reasonably close to the trailhead to rent crampons, an ice axe, and possibly a helmet? Also, will a non-free standing tent work OK at Trail Camp? Thanks.

Hi, Tom-- My party and I were at Trail Camp on August 7 and the wind was horrendous. One member of out party had a pup-tent style tent and he placed rocks on top of his tent stakes after he had them in the ground,. The tent made it through the night in an upright position!! No problem. Hope this helps!
