Sounds like a couple of cold fronts are moving in this weekend bringing some high winds. I had been planning a little over night near Tioga Pass and a training hike up Mt. Dana in preparation for a Mt. Whitney attempt later this month.

Obviously I am keeping close tabs on the weather. Typically I have a good sense of how these weather changes affect N. Tahoe where I live.... but have no idea about Mono County/Yosemite. Any thoughts? Do I bother with a 6 hour roundtrip drive and a quick overnight, or should I stick close to home and enjoy some slightly lower elevation hiking/climbing???

Did you check out the forecast at <a href="http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/index.php?wfo=rev&zone=caz073&fire=caz273&county=cac051&dgtl=1&lat=37.922083333333&lon=-119.26875">Tioga Pass area</a>? It does not forecast high winds on Saturday or Sunday. Three weeks ago there was a narrow band snowfield on Dana about a third of the way up the final Class 2.

well... they are forecasting potential snow levels around 6k ft in Tahoe and gusts up to 50 mph and night time temps around freezing. it doesn't look as severe in the Tioga Pass area, but Mt. Dana is pretty exposed. does it tend to get hammered? just trying to figure out if getting some higher elevation hiking in... is worth it with the weather being iffy.

etwalker - i am doing a dayhike trip with friends from out of town on the 30th. hoping to do MR -> MMWT... of course depending on the weather wink
