Considering what temps (and wind) I encountered on August 10, I would bet that it will be a lot colder.

This is as close as I can get the coordinates to trail Camp, probably within 100 vertical feet.

Versatile Fred, perhaps an addition to FAQ, if not already there?

Very temperate to freezing cold. It just depends when you walk up the hill. I've camped in both extremes in September...and August, July and June for that matter in the Sierra. I've seen high 40's and mid teens at 12,000' in the Sierra. Heck, the coldest night I ever spend in the Sierra in the summer was below 10,000'.

Just check forecast before heading to Whitney Portal.

Ken,
Steve C has been handling the weather links on the Whitney Portal Store web page. He has several links under the Weather tab ( http://www.whitneyzone.com/whitney_weather.htm ) on the WPS home page. I assume that he can add your link as well. FYI, I already have a link to the WPS weather tab in the orientation notes.

Hi Ken,

It looks like you have found a different display of the NOAA "Point Forecast" that is available on the WPS weather tab.

I tried everything I could to get a forecast for the elevation of the summit, but the highest elevation I could get from the site is at: Lat/Lon: 36.557 -118.275 Elevation: 12812 ft.

I plugged in your Lat/Lon values on the display I have set up, and got the same elevation as yours, but it switched over to the Las Vegas reporting system. Mt. Whitney and the Sierra Crest apparently are right on the boundary of their two areas.

I have even tried emailing NOAA asking them if maybe they could tweak their system to better show the summit weather, but nobody ever replies.
