My buddy and I, both newbies to the mountain, are targeting Sept. 12 or 19th. There are 14 and 92 permits available respectively. Based on the lateness of the season is is it adviseable to just get to Lone Pine the day before and go get the permit or should we secure it beforehand?

This board has been a wealth of information and I thank all the contributors. Hopefully in the future I can reciprocate.

Uni,
I have not done the mountain either but think that you should be fine this late in the season just showing up and getting the permit the day before.

Good luck on your hike!
