This post is a little off-topic (from Mt Whitney) but I am hoping I can get help. I am part of a small group that is considering Mt. Shasta in May this year. Is there a a forum similar to this one where one can get information - logistics, where to stay, etc. etc. - related to Mt. Shasta?

Thanks

HI WE Tend to drift in the winter to several areas Local mountains around SO. Cal., Killi, and we have talked alot about Shasta and Ranier some on Hood as one of the local guys in Lone Pine Guided there for about 6 years.
Also we have active guides on the board that answere many of these post from other climbing areas,
We have the band width and could add these other areas, same conditions would apply keep it clean and respectful. Thanks Doug

Besides this great board, there is summitpost.org. It has a wealth of information about mountains all over the world.

If your group is experienced, you won't need guide because the usual route is pretty clear and you will be following a trail through the snow. However, most of my friends have used guides.

I was once on the mountain in May and the night before my hike it snowed two feet. After reaching 9,000 feet and listening to avalanches during the night, my party decided to forego the summit.

One word of advice: rent plastic boots. Leather boots are not capable of staying dry for more than three or four hours even after multi-applications of snow-seal. Waking up to frozen boots is not the way to start a hike.

Although not a forum, this site has a lot of info. He has descriptions, pics, and maps of many hikes including Shasta, Langley, Whitney both Main Trail and MR. Check it out. He's from Italy so distances are in km.

SFBay, I used to live in Mt. Shasta and know the area like the back of my hand. If you are still looking for info on the area and climbing beta let me know what I can help you with.
