Anything higher than Lone Pine that is within an hour or so drive of the main trail trailhead?

Look at the links to Rock Creek Lake and Bishop Creek in the Orientation Notes topic (at the top of the message board) if you are willing to drive over one hour (they also are both closer and higher elevation than Mammoth Lakes). The Owens Valley is sloped from north to south, so your best options lie to the north (see the links in Driving from the north ).
