I enjoyed your pictures. I always like it when people go to Thor Peak...a very rewarding place.

Your first picture of Candlelight shows the upper portion of the Bob R. Candlelight route from Lone Pine Lake. It is a great place to know about

Your second/ third picture is the inviting canyon to the left in the lower North Fork. I have been up that twice, once intentionally and once by accident. It is steep and unforgiving, especially covered with snow. It comes out in the descent route (probably a little above 10000 feet). The only problem with that route......after all that effort you are still too far emotionally from the top. It is a dissapointment to put forth that much effort and then see the top so far away.

I think the North Side route from the trees just below Lower Boy Scout Lake is a better compromise.

We always took the Bob R variation when we did Thor from Lower Boy Scout Lake. I have been interested in the route straight up through the rocks in picture #21. Looking from a distance I have never quite known exactly where to climb through. Maybe it would be worth a trip up that way to find out.

From your pictures I would guess you climbed through the rocks a little to the right of the low spot in picture #21. Steve, is that true?
When I looked at your other Thor photo album from 8/31/03 "route up Thor" picture, it looked like your climbed through the steeper rocks further west.

Hard to find enough time to explore Thor Peak adequately.

It looks like you can now get to Thor Peak almost any route with little snow.

I have wondered the same thing. Looking up from Lower Boy Scout Lake, it would seem easier to climb up into the bowl face closer to the Rockwell route or straight aheah, west of the steeper rock area.

Anyone know?

Kent, Thanks for the info on the interesting route. Sounds like a lot of work but I'd still like to try it sometime. I believe you are right about where I went up in pic #21, to the right of the low spot. The fun thing is that I go up differently every time and it keeps you out of the soft stuff. There is a nice 30 or 40 ft headwall at the top. You can easily avoid it by going around to the left. Left is good, right is soft and steep. Steve
