Hi all. My dad first started hiking in the Sierra's in '46, when the gas rationing ended. He introduced me to them in the '70s when we had our great backpacking trips together, and we summitted Whitney together in 76 and 94. He went with my sister sometime inbetween but they got lighting'd off. He did it twice in a day in the '50s when his ride was late so he had nothing else to do after hiking out from the JMT so he went back up. I've followed with ten summits of my own, but he was never into the roped thing, which I occasionally do. My son's middle name is Whitney for obvious reasons. Ok, enough of the background, the bottom line is that he is terminally ill and I was hoping to bring back a summit rock to bury with him but he is worsening (well actually better in a wholistic sense) quickly it seems and I can't leave home. If anyone lives near the San Fernando Valley in SoCal and is summitting very very soon and can bring back a small summit rock or bag of gravel i'd be grateful. My email is ron@movich.com for contact. Thanks much.
