I recently read that Lone Pine Creek was set to be stocked this week (6/19 - 6/25) -- does anyone know if this occurred, and/or how often the DF&G's truck makes a run up there, or what areas of the Portal area (both the Pond and LP Creek?) receive fish? I ask because by the looks of things in the Portal a few weeks ago, with the run-off in full-swing, it looked to be a little early for fish deliveries, at least in the Portal section of Lone Pine Creek, else they'd be pummelled to death on the rocks (or at least quickly swept down to the lower reaches) by the fast water.

Any reports or recommendations from anyone who's fished the Portal area (LP Creek, the Pond), the Alabama Hills area, or Lone Pine Lake recently would be much appreciated.

After a couple of warm-up hikes during our acclimatization time up there I'd like nothing more than to throw the line in the water for a few hours.

Lone Pine Creek was stocked last week. They dumped quite a few fish right next to our camp site (#13 and #15 by the bridge). Your right, most of the trout quickly washed down stream but some larger fish managed to hang in some pools. The real hot fishing was in the the Portal Pond. Dry Flies worked the best. #18 and #16 Adams, Sierra Bright Dot, and Elk Hair Caddis. Those hungry trout pretty much smacked anything we threw at them. In Lone Pine Lake switch to #20s and add Dry Midge Patters, ***** and Red Ants. You will slay the Goldens. Please exercise catch and release in Lone Pine Lake. Good Luck!

Cbblaster, great post. Thanks for the thorough info and the flies recommendations. About what size are the fish they stock? Primarily rainbows? And there are Goldens in Lone Pine Lake???! I had no idea. What a great opportunity.

By the way, how were the flows in LP Creek? If able, and in addition to the Pond, I hope to work some flies in the Creek -- did you have any luck there?

And, as far as my personal fly fishing beliefs are concerned, it's strictly catch and release at all times. Thanks again for the news.
