Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Any extra permits for MR overnight in July?

Does anyone have any extra permits for an overnight trip on the Mountaineer's Route in July?
If not, is it too much of a gamble to show up at the rangers' station early in the morning hoping to get first-come-first-serve permits?

On a weekdays you have a good chance at getting one of the 4 or more walk up permits for the MR. On weekends, get in line at the ranger station early. It is always hit or miss. We usually plan on hanging around at Horseshoe or the Portal an extra day if we need to try again on the second day.
