I was checking out possible pre-Whitney places to camp, prior to trying to summit. I came across Horshoe Meadows, which is apparently at 10,000 feet. However, I also read that it was closed....

1. Is this true?

2. Can you still camp there even if it's closed?

During the winter the Horseshoe meadows road is closed, making it difficult to get anywhere near the campground without a very long walk.

It shouldn't be too long before they clear and open the road. In the past it has always been open by late May.
