I currently own an old Camelbak Rim Runner (70oz.). I was thinking of picking up a new daypack, as that one is a little too small. Any ideas?

Depends a lot on your intended use. Is to be a strictly 3 season pack or do you to play in the snow.

I use Gregory's Advent Pro on all my day hikes. It has many features found on a reg backpack. Top,back and bottom access and only weighs 2 1/2 lbs. The bottom access will hold a light weight down bag for overnight use. I have used the Advent Pro to fastpack the JMT in 03, climb Mt. Shasta in 04 and hike Whitney 8 times last year. I great little pack! ,Michael

Check out some of the gear on the market for Adventure Racing. The packs are highly functional, light weight, and perfect for day hikes on Whitney. Solomon and Go Lite are good brands to start with. argear.com is a web site to look for these items.
Best of luck

I was very happy with my Golite Speed, an adventure racing pack that weighs 1-1/2 lbs, which I used on 12-13 trips last summer, including three 8-day trips. Hardly shows any wear. I'd say max weight is around 25#

Several years ago, I bought a Lowe Alpine "Countour 40" daypack. It's a bit heavier than most (about 2-1/2 pounds) but fits well, has adequate padding against your back, has a waist belt to take some load off your shoulders. Dual ice axe loops (I often use the second to carry a camera tripod), dual bottle pockets on the outside, and an outside flap with straps that's designed to take a snow shovel but works great to stuff a rain shell or other garment. Just a main compartment and small zip pouch at the top of the pack.

Works for me...
