We are going to snowshoe up to Upper Boy Scout or Iceberg this weekend. Where can we camp on Friday and Saturday night? Also, any idea what the nightime temps are like at the Portal?

Tuttle Creek Campground just down Horseshoe Meadows Road is a nice lower elevation campsite not too far from the portal. Its free and open year round now. Temp wise seems like its been warm lately up there, so I'ld say prob high teens low 20s near the portal, some others may have a better guess(or Doug may know).

Hi Lone Pine camp ground is open and several miles closer, we left the poratl Campground Sat. Night about 7 PM and the temp. was 36 , Returnted Sunday morning 9 AM and temp was 43
High teens maybe safe but weather this year is not normal fast storms with high wind .I would sleep lower and start several hours early. Thanks Doug

Lone pine campground is off the Whitney Portal road. It is right at the bottom of the canyon going up to Whitney portal. It is at about 6000 feet and doesn't need reservations.

When you are driving up the Whitney portal road you will see the movie road going off into the Alabama hills to the right. Then you will pass the Horseshoe meadows road going to the left. Just before the turnoff to the Lone Pine campground you will see the Olivas ranch road. Next is the Lone Pine campground road. It is marked, leaving the road to the left.
