Hi Most years it's over the middle of May then one can call and see what dates are left and make a request for the open dates, pay the reservation fee and are good to go, Last year a person ask at the store on Fourth of July weekend if any permits were left, I said not a chance ,but would call the Ranger station and check, several permits were there and the group drove to town and picked them up.Most week days in late Sept. and October some permits are available due to cancels/no shows .
