I am planning to be up at Portal campground, then hike to trail camp and summit - a total of 4 nights. We have camped at the Portal campground before and plan to do the same this time. We arrive Thursday afternoon, will camp at Portal campground and then hit the trail Friday morning. My question and concern is, there are 14 in our group, and we will have some non perishable food that we will need to store when on the mountain (Friday night and Saturday night) for when we return. If we are able to get a camp site at Portal campground, are we allowed to keep some of our provisions in a bear box at the campground ? ( I wouldn't think so). Second question - are there other bear boxes at the trail head that can be used to store our stuff while on the trail ?
Thanks

You can keep your stuff in the Family Campground bear box if you rent the site throuhout your time on the mountain. If not the occupant who utilizes your campsite next will toss your stuff for their stuff.

There are community bear boxes around the trailhead area. Please put only smellies in there because space is at a premium.

I have been known to take out water and books to put food items in the boxes.
