Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone is heading up the Main Trail this weekend with camp at Trail Camp. I'm driving in Thursday and will hopefully stay at the Portal that night (if the road stays open). Hiking to Trail Camp on Friday and going up the Chute to summit on Saturday. Just wondering how the conditions are up top. Due to recent snow, I'm taking snowshoes as well as crampons. Hopefully I will be the one at Trail Camp in the Mountain Hardware tent.

russclimber: I'll second Richards "prepare for an epic." Snowshoes are a good idea for the new drifts (could be 3-4 ft.). The traverse to the summit slopes from Trail Crest may also be interesting with berms/drifts on the trail - allow extra time. The chute could be OK, but watch for instability (there may be an old hard snow/ice layer underneath the fresh stuff).

Good Luck,
Doug F.

Thanks so much for the input. I was hoping for an adventure and sounds like that is what I will get.
