Hi, looking for someone or a group to climb Whitney with in August 2004. Can't find anyone willing to do it with, if there is anyone going up for a one or two day assent and wouldn't mind a friend to tag along. Love hiking but hiking up Whitney first time, would like to do it with someone...

I know I can do the MR with no permit, but if I were to do it in one day, would I be able to follow the trail in the dark? I wouldn't mind going alone, but with no permit the main trail is out.

No, never done MR, looks very intimidating to do first time and to start it in the dark, should I be scared?

Nothing to be scared about. Just get good directions get to Lower boyscout lake. From there it is pretty simple to find the route to the top. The MR is a nice chute. Just a steep hike is all. Not at all technically difficult. It can be done in within 12hrs, depending on the snow conditions. I recomend the 1 day assault. Otherwise you have to haul additional crap to camp with. Go light and leave early.

I've found someone with a extra pass, they have 4 and someone dropped out. I guess you pick them up at the ranger station in Lone Pine, my question is, there going up for two days can I do the trail in one with my pass or do I have to stay with there group?
