We'll be staying in the Portal Campground when we hike Whitney this summer. Normally our dog sleeps in the back of our Suburban. Does anyone see this as a concern for bears trying to get in to eat the dog? I've read a number of posts about bears opening cars like cans. The non-hikers in our group will take care of the dog during the day, it's just the night I'm concerned about.

Bears are sneaky critters and avoid any confrontation unless absolutely necessary. From my experience, at night the dogs will be safe, and keep the bears away from the car.
